"Making Waves in Heavy Marine Transportation"
In view of the significant geographical imbalance in the distribution of natural resources worldwide and ever-growing demand for resources, especially relatively immobile resources and related supportive facilities, Sam Woo made a strategic move to venture into the heavy marine transportation industry in 2005 to capture opportunities arising from the macro-environment.
In February 2005, with the acquisition of motor vessel Asian Atlas, which
is one of the largest semi-submersible heavy-lift type transport vessels in the world, Sam Woo completed the first phase of diversification into heavy marine transportation. The heavy marine transportation business accounted for nearly 50% of the Group's turnover in the financial year 2006, and it is expected to be the core income driver for the Group in the years to come.
Asian Atlas plays a key role in leading the Group into the lucrative heavy marine transportation industry. It also brings immense mobility to the Group and facilitates its foundation works and the trading of heavy machinery and equipment for construction fields overseas.
To take advantage of heavy marine transport and marine construction opportunities associated with logistic support to offshore production and supply infrastructure projects, management is actively exploring strategies to enhance the Group’s capacity through the procurement of additional vessels and shipyard. The Group is also strengthening its strong presence in the marine engineering and foundation construction market overseas, thanks to the mobility brought by Asian Atlas. It paves the way for the Group’s long-term development and success.
Looking ahead, the Group envisages great challenges as well as rewards as it continues to expand. The board of directors and management will dedicate their best effort to lead the Group to strive for the best interests for its shareholders and business associates.
